How Much Tooth Preparation Is Required?

A crown covers the whole visible part of the tooth, so some natural tooth structure must be removed to create enough space for the restoration.

The exact amount of preparation varies from tooth to tooth depending on the existing shape, alignment, previous fillings, decay and the final design required.

Crowns are an irreversible treatment because removed enamel does not grow back.

For patients with healthy, well-aligned teeth who only require small cosmetic changes, a more conservative treatment such as bonding, orthodontics or laminate veneers may be recommended instead.

Send us clear photographs of your teeth and any recent panoramic X-ray you may have.

Our dental team will provide an initial treatment plan and quotation.

After arriving in Antalya, we carry out:

• Full intraoral examination
• Gum and bone assessment
• Bite assessment
• Technical dental photographs

Your final treatment plan is then explained to you in detail.

If anything additional is medically required, we explain what is needed, why it is needed and the associated cost before proceeding.

Treatment only begins once the final plan has been clinically confirmed and mutually agreed.

During your 6-night, 7-day stay, your teeth are prepared, temporary restorations are provided where required, and the final zirconia restorations are produced in our laboratory.

You will have trial appointments to check the shape, length, shade, overall appearance, comfort and bite before permanent cementation.

Good oral hygiene, professional dental maintenance and use of the night guard where prescribed are important conditions of long-term care.

If a covered crown requires assessment, repair or replacement, this is carried out at Dental Design Turkey according to the warranty terms.

Flights, accommodation, transfers, lost earnings and other personal travel expenses are not covered.

Will my teeth be shaved?

Yes. A zirconia crown requires tooth preparation because it completely covers the tooth. The amount varies depending on the individual tooth and treatment requirements.

Will they look too white?

No particular shade is compulsory. You choose the shade together with our clinical team, and the shape, length and colour can be assessed during your trial appointments before permanent cementation.

Do I need a root canal before crowns?

Not automatically. Root canal treatment is only carried out where clinically required. Teeth with deep fillings, decay, previous trauma, significant preparation requirements or nerve involvement may require root canal treatment. Sometimes the need only becomes clear after an old filling or crown has been removed.

How long do zirconia crowns last?

There is no fixed lifetime for any dental restoration. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, gum and bone health, bite forces, grinding or clenching, maintenance and regular dental checks. Our zirconia crowns carry a 5-year material guarantee subject to our written warranty conditions.
